.IN INDIA NATIONAL political elections are looming. Citizens are expected to head to the polls in April as well as May. Narendra Modi, the prime minister, wants to gain a 3rd phrase in office.
To that end he has been highlighting his spiritual dedication. On January 22nd Mr Modi commenced a new holy place to Ram, in Ayodhya, a northern city believed through supporters to be that Hindu god’s place of origin. The holy place was actually built on land formerly occupied through a centuries-old mosque, which was actually taken apart through a Hindu-nationalist crowd in 1992.
Resolving a crowd of supporters after the event, which denoted the off the record beginning of his campaign for re-election, Mr Modi claimed the new development was “certainly not just a divine holy place” yet “a holy place of India’s vision, philosophy as well as instructions”. What did he suggest?
